Detailed Itinerary for Kagulu Hill Rock Climbing Challenge
Pickup from Kampala in the morning by our driver and transfer to Buyende district. The 190 km journey takes about 4 hours to reach to the foothills of the unique solid rock. From Kampala, you will take Jinja road and drive through Mukono, Mabira Forest, Jinja and then take Kamuli road. From Kamuli, you drive another 50 kms to reach Buyende district, the home of the Kagulu Rock, which has become a distinctive attraction in the Busoga Sub Region. On arrival at the rock, you will get briefing and then start the hike, ensure to carry strong hiking shoes. Other trekking gears like the hiking stick will be provided at the scene. It’s an interesting adventure as you trek up through the rock ridges to the peak.
While at the peak, you will feel a sigh of relief. The view that stretches far is very clear at the summit. Sit and relax as you prepare to descend to the starting point. The guides at the hill will brief you more about the history of Busoga and the Basoga people which have a strong historical link to Kagulu Hill and its surroundings. You will have enough water with you so that you hydrate after the strenuous dehydrating adventure.
On returning down to the foothills, you may have a chance to tour around the rock communities and appreciate their cultures and lifestyles. You will also drive to the Fishing villages of Lake Kyoga, which is about 2 kms from the outstanding physical feature. After the tour of the entire area, you will have lunch and then return to Kampala. Spend another 4 hours on the way and arrive in the evening. If time is enough, you may have an en route visit to the Ssezibwa Falls, an interesting tourist attractions characterized by rocks, falls and culture. Arrive in the evening.
