Trip Programme to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Lake Victoria
Day 1: Drive to the Island by boat.
Our guide will meet you at the hotel or any at an agreed point in Kampala to begin a 3 days chimps’ trip to the Island. He will transfer you to the land pier at Entebbe from where you will have a boat cruise to Ngamba lasting between 45 minutes to an hour. You guide on the boat will also orient you about how the program will run.
On arrival there, you will take part the morning chimps feeding. The feeding of the chimpanzees on the island is an amazing adventure as you watch how they feed. You do the feeding exercise together with the primates’ care takers. Your guide will be available to attend to you in case of any question as you moving around the place, see where chimpanzee food is being prepared, move to the clinic to see where they treated from. After here, you will take a rest at the Sanctuary’s lodge up to lunch hours. You may decide to rest at the lake shores or in the tents, there is camp fire and if needed you can always ask for it as you enjoy a drink. Relaxing and chilling in the evening is worth your stay on the island. Dinner and overnight stay at Ngamba Island Tented Camp.
Day 2: Ngamba Island Forest Walk and Sunset boat cruise.
After breakfast set out for another sessions of chimps feeding if you so wish. There are four Chimpanzee feeding sessions every day that is at 8:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm. You are at liberty to choose from any of these when it’s ideal or preferred by you to take part in the food giving exercise. There is also a program code-named Chimp Enrichment, you can as well do this.
Away from giving meals to the chimps, you will also do an exhilarating forest walk. This jungle hike is very exciting as you have a chance to take beautiful pictures with chimpanzees, man’s closest relatives. The most captivating thing on the forest hiking expedition is when the chimps start pulling your clothes, hair, climb on you or even shake your hands and hold you while in motion.
You will return for lunch at the restaurant and then as you look out for birds on the shores of the lake, lizards and butterflies. Later in the evening, you will do an evening boat cruise where you spend an hour so that you can clearly see the sunset. This is really amazing as enjoy the beautiful sundown on the lake. Viewing of the surrounding sceneries of the distant islands, fishing ground, birds and many more are all amazing. Get back to the sanctuary for your restful overnight. Day 3: Enjoy another morning Chimpanzee feeding and transfer to Entebbe main land.
You will do an early morning chimps feeding, then after have a breakfast a head of another food giving before setting off by boat back to Entebbe main land. As you riding back, you will have enroute stopover at the equator point and this is where most of the Ngamba visitors do swimming. On arrival at the main land, the guide will pick you from the landing site. With your willingness and availability of time, you will visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) in Entebbe. This place, commonly known as Entebbe Zoo, is a collection of various wild animals for study and conservation purposes. Animals here include, lions, rhinos, hippos, chimps, ostriches, hennas, antelopes, giraffes plus many more as well as various bird species. Time allowing, you may have a short visit to the Uganda reptile village near entebbe where you will see lots of reptile species including huge poisonous snakes among others. After this brief tour, you will have lunch and either be transferred back to Kampala or to the airport in case of an upcoming flight. This marks the end of the 3 days Chimpanzee tour.
