Busingye Gorilla Family in Rushaga Sector in Bwindi
Busingye Gorilla Family is a gorilla group in Rushaga Sector that broke away from Kahungye family in Bwindi National Park. The group was opened for tracking encounters in 2011. Other groups in Rushaga comprise of Kahungye, Nshongi, Mishaya and Bweza Family. Rushaga sector where Busingye gorilla group is found is one of the four gorilla trekking sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Other Bwindi regions include Buhoma Sector in the north of the park, Ruhija sector in the eastern side and Nkuringo sector in the southern region of the park.
Uganda Wildlife Authority is responsible for selling gorilla permits from its head offices in Kampala. However, the permits for Busingye were once sold on the ground at its inception. Anyone tracking this group can comfortably stay at the Gorilla Safari Lodge, Kisoro Travelers’ Rest Inn or anywhere not far from the family. The latest records show that the family has 9 members headed by 1 silverback.
In order to trek Busingye gorillas, you need to book a gorilla permit which presently at USD 600. On the day of tracking the gorillas, you will be put in a group of 8 tourists less or more. This is the recommended official number for all the gorilla families in Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga National Park.
The Gorilla trekking encounter in Uganda takes about 8 hours, less or above basing of the gorilla movements as well as the ease in hiking. Upon meeting the endangered primates, your stay with them is limited to 60 minutes as you keep a distance of 7 meters away from them to control possible irritation or disease transmissions if any.
Access to the Gorilla Family
Rushaga sector found in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable forest is accessible by road from Entebbe or Kampala. You can also track gorillas in this region by going through Kigali to Bwindi. Usually gorilla tours in Uganda from Kigali are more shorter and convenient compared to those starting from Kampala. You are at liberty to choose which route to use based on your available time and budget. Rwanda to Uganda gorilla trekking from Kigali may even take as short as one or two days unlike those from Kampala. There is also a flying option from Entebbe Airport to Kisoro Airstrip from where, a road transfer is made to Rushaga area.
