Full Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the Airport

On arrival, a Gorilla Trekking Services guide will welcome you at Entebbe International Airport and transfer Kampala for your overnight stay at Cassia Lodge.

Day 2: Track Rhinos as you transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Ziwa Rhino Ranch Have breakfast in the morning and leave for Murchison Falls National Park. You will arrive in the afternoon; the drive takes approximately 5-8 hours and gives you a good insight on the Ugandan way of life. From Kampala, you will head north wards with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino Tracking. After trekking rhinos, you will make another stop in Masindi for lunch. Arrive at the park in the evening. Overnight at the Luxury Paraa Safari Lodge or Pakuba Safari Lodge on full board.

Day 3: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Start the day with an early morning game drive and expect animals like animals like the hartebeests, jackals, bush bucks, oribi, bohor reed bucks, hyenas, giraffes, lions, antelopes, elephants and the Uganda kob among the many. After a game safari, go back to the lodge for relaxation and later lunch.

The afternoon will be for launch cruise. The Murchison boat cruise goes to the bottom of the falls where animals like the buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, elephants and plenty of water birds like the herons, cormorants, ducks, bee-eaters, kingfishers, skimmers, fish eagles, the rare shoe bill and many more species can be viewed from the peaceful sailing boat. After the cruise, return to the lodge for overnight at a Paraa Safari Lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park

Eat your breakfast and depart for Kibale National Park with your packed lunch as the drive last for about nine hours and you will pass close to Lake Albert. On a clear day, the view on the top of the Albert rift is spectacular. You will arrive in Fort portal town in the late afternoon. Overnight at the luxurious Ndali Lodge, Rwenzori View Guest House, Kibale Primates Lodge or Rweteera Safari Park on full board.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Kibale Forest and Bigodi Nature Walk

Chimpanzee trekking Budongo After your early morning breakfast, report to the ranger station at 08.00 am for a briefing in preparation for chimpanzee tracking. The chimps are the most closely related apes to humans than any other living creature and are a must watch as they squabble and play on the tree branches. Kibale forest, the biggest chimpanzee trekking site in Uganda is also a home to over 13 species of primates including the red Colobus monkeys, the rare L’hoest, blue monkeys, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons as well as the bush babies. To see Chimpanzees in Kibale National park, you must have booked a chimpanzee trekking permit sold and issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Beside chimpanzee tracking, visitors can also do chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale forest.

A network of shady forest trails provides much to delight to botanists plus butterfly lovers whereas birders have the chance to enjoy watching a variety of birds. There are about 335 bird species recorded in Kibale including the endemic Prirogrine’s ground thrush. The indescribable forest elephant, smaller and hairier is a Savannah counterpart and moves seasonally into the developed part of the park. Other other terrestrial mammals at the park include buffalo, gigantic forest hog and dozens of antelope species. After chimps trekking, return to the for Lunch. You will use the afternoon and evening having a nature walk in Bigodi Swamp. At this marshland, you will like see lots of primates, birds and insects. After the days activities, have diner and overnight at a luxurious Ndali Lodge, Isunga Safari Lodge or Kibale Forest Camp on full board.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Following breakfast, you will be off to Queen Elizabeth National Park getting there via the Northern crater Area. With fine-looking lakes and rich grasslands which are set deep in the crater valley, this is truly the most astounding viewpoint in the park. The park hosts a large variety of wildlife and boasts one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game park in the world, ranging from the open Savannah to Rain forest, thick swamps and gorgeous crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward.

The park has over 606 species of birds like the button-quail, martial eagle, black-rumped Verreauxâs, eagle owl and African skimmer to mention. The park’s primates comprise of Chimps, Black and white Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black Faced Red Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons.

After checking in and relaxing briefly, you will go for an evening boat cruise starting from Mweya Peninsula during which, expect to see lots of animals and birds. You will likely see elephants, water bucks, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos and many more. This voyage passes through the highest concentration of Hippos and many animals seen drinking at the water shores. This launch cruise is an excellent opportunity for seeing birds and animals. The inexhaustible bird life is colorful and fantastic with well over 550 inhabitant species. Overnight and dinner at Mweya Safari Lodge, Enganzi Lodge or Ihamba Lakeside Safari Lodge on full board.

Day 7: Game Drive and Evening Tour of Katwe Salt Lakes

After breakfast, you will start an early morning game drive in the park which will award you with an superb chance to see Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Defassa Water bucks, Uganda Kobs, Topi and Bush bucks and many others. After having lunch, you will have and afternoon or evening tour of the Katwe Salt lakes. Overnight and dinner at Mweya Safari Lodge, Enganzi Lodge or Ihamba Lakeside Safari Lodge on full board.

Day 8: Move to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

you depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the morning going via Ishasha, the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth. Lunch will taken along Ishasha River and try to find the famed Ishasha tree-climbing lions before heading to Bwindi, home to the few surviving mountain gorillas. Birds and primates in Bwindi is quite fabulous, and there is an unbelievable variety of birds. Bwindi is the Bird watchers retreat as it holds 348 species of birds and supports 24 of 26 Albertine Rift Endemics that occur in Uganda; and seven red data book species. Bwindi is now an ecological island, surrounded by cultivation on the rich volcanic soils. Overnight at Silverback Lodge or Buhoma Community Bandas on full board.

Day 9: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

You will wake up pretty early for a weighty breakfast to get enough energy for hiking to see the gorillas. Head to the ranger station at 08.00 am where the guides will take you through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. This walk takes from half an hour to five hours.

Therefore a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a well-built pair of walking shoes. You will sit in the forest among the gorillas, listen to them moan at each other and have an awesome sight at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silver back. It is astounding to know that there are only 650 or so of these creatures left in the world! If there is time in the afternoon, you will have guided village walks and see how the Ugandans live. Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, enjoy Nature and Community Walks

Get breakfast and drive to Lake Bunyonyi which lies at an altitude of approximately 2000 metres, and it follows the contours of the hilly terrain that separates Kabale and Kisoro. It is a very beautiful spot, dotted with small islands and ringed by steeped terraced hills. Bunyonyi locally means a place of little birds and it is particularly good for water birds. On reaching the beautiful lake around mid morning, you will have a boat cruise on the lake during which, expect to see its nice-looking islands with a variety of birds. You will also visit the punishment island and later return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon or evening, you will have a community walk around the lake. Visit the black smith (Abahesi) as well as local troupes who may entertain you with their traditional songs and dances. Later in the evening, go back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Lake Bunyonyi Overland Camp in Self Contained Cottages Overlooking the Lake, on full board.

Day 11: Head to Lake Mburo National Park

Following a morning breakfast, you will depart for Lake Mburo National Park. Drive through some of Uganda’s finest scenery. The Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates (cloved hoofed animals). For birding, it is one of the best places to find African fin foot and papyrus bush shrike. You will check in at the camp and have an evening relaxation awaiting to have the next day’s major Lake Mburo tourist activities which include game drive and boat ride. Overnight at Mantana Tented Camp, Rwakobo Rock or Mburo Safari Lodge on full board.

Day 12: Morning Game Drive and Evening Boat Cruise on Lake Mburo

In the morning, you will leave for a game drive during which, you will see lots of birds and animals in the park. These include zebra, hippopotamus, impala, warthog, common eland, African buffalo, jackal, African leopard plus over 300 bird species. You will later have lunch at the lodge after the game drive in Lake Mburo National park.

In the afternoon, you will have a boat cruise on the Lake. Lake Mburo boat cruise will enable you come close to the flora and fauna around the water body. And along the bank, you will also see many animals that come to the water to quench their thirst. In the evening, return to the lodge for overnight at Mantana Tented Camp, Rwakobo Rock or Mburo Safari Lodge on full board.

Day 13: Drive to Kampala then Jinja

After having your breakfast, you will depart for Kampala and then move straight to Jinja heading east passing Tea and Sugar plantations and the colorful roadside fruit/vegetable markets. You will stop at the Uganda Equator, where the northern and southern Hemisphere separate from. This is a point for photo opportunities, handicrafts shopping and body stretching. From the Equator point, continue to Kampala where you will have lunch before proceeding to Jinja.

After lunch, drive to Jinja going through the thick Mabira forest, positioned side by side along Kampala – Jinja highway. You will continue to Jinja and drive straight to the Source of the Nile, a spot where John Speke, a British explorer first discovered the beginning point of the world’s longest river. After entry, you will take a boat ride to the actual point where the Nile commences to flow up to the Mediterranean Sea. Standing at the River Nile starting point is another memorable photo opportunity you must not miss. Later after the boat cruise, transfer to the hotel for dinner. Overnight at Jinja Nile Resort, Source of the Nile Hotel or Sunset Hotel on full board.

Day 14: White Water Rafting on River Nile, return to Kampala
