11 Days Safaris in Uganda
Enjoy the 11-Day most excellent and memorable Safari in Uganda taking you to Ssese Island, Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Bunyonyi.
Day 1: Transfer to Ssese Island
From Kampala or Entebbe, you will be transferred to Lake Victoria shores for a boat cruise /ferry to Ssese Islands. Arrive in the early afternoon for an afternoon walk on the Sandy beaches before dinner and overnight at Brovad Sands Beach Hotel or Mirembe resort.
Day 2: Ssese Island Beaches
Have breakfast at the hotel then relax at the beach enjoying beach games like swimming, canoeing on the lake, cycling, forest nature walks, return for lunch and then just cool out at the beach in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.
Day 3: Lake Mburo National Park
Have breakfast and then board a ferry back to the main land. Then drive west heading to Lake Mburo National Park. You will drive through Mbarara where you will stop for lunch before making your final drop to Lake Mburo National Park. The Park has an extensive area of wetland which is a habitat for a variety of birds including the rare shoe-bill stork. It also harbors several species of mammals including Zebras, impalas, elands, topi and buffaloes, its sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic lake shores. Day 4: Safari in Lake Mburo National Park
Start a wonderful day with a game drive in the park which is a habitat for a variety of birds including the rare shoe-bill stork. You will have a chance to view several species of mammals including Zebras, impalas, elands, topi and buffaloes. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, enjoy a guided nature walk which takes you to the Salt Lick Area. An advantageously located wooden platform which offers a chance to see at least four different species of animals at any one point while they lick the salty soil. After lunch, take a boat ride where you will spot hippos, crocodiles and variety of water birds. Overnight at Luxury Mantana Tented camp (FB)
Day 5: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP, The Switzerland of Africa
In the morning, head through the highlands with a scenic drive to Kabale, where we will stop for lunch. The journey offers radiant views of the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. The road then takes you to home to the mountain gorillas Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Day 6: Gorilla Tracking Safari in Bwindi Forest
Wake up early morning before 8:00 am for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The gorillas to be tracked fall either in one of the two habituated family groups. Experienced guides will accompany you on tracking, through the bush pushing your way through the brushwood and parting thick creepers.
The guides use their knowledge of the gorillas habits and information from the previous day to locate the groups on that day. The time taken to track the gorillas varies enormously, from as little as half an hour to as much as 9 hours before one returns to camp. Once the gorillas are located, viewers are allowed a maximum of one hour with them which is perhaps one of the most thrilling and unforgettable wildlife experiences. Day 7: Kasenyi Track and Lake Katwe
After a morning breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. An afternoon game drive around the crater region of the park should provide sightings of elephants, herds of buffalo, and a variety of birds. One can also visit Lake Katwe where salt is mined and the Kasenyi landing site on the shores of Lake George. Later, have some time to relax at the at the Lodge. Day 8: The Kazinga Channel
Eat your breakfast and then have an early morning game drive and spot Elephants, water bucks, warthogs, hippos and others. Return to the lodge for lunch and the you use the afternoon for a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. This short voyage will give you gives you the opportunity to view wildlife at a close range like the hippos huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo hang on in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to a collection of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Jacana lodge.
Day 9: Lake Bunyonyi & its Islands
After breakfast, transfer to lake Bunyonyi from Kabale town, with the deepest crater lake (900 m) in the country, at an altitude of 1 840 m spotted with several islands. Lake Bunyonyi means a place of little birds ” and is particularly good for water birds. It is a very scenic spot. The lake is also known for its crayfish. The lake is surrounded by hills terraced by farmers of cow-peas, Irish potatoes and sorghum. This region has been referred to as the Switzerland of Africa. Day 10: Lake Bunyonyi Island Tour
You spend the whole day exploring the beauty of the region around L. Bunyonyi. Enjoy a boat ride on the lake visiting the famous Punishment Island. Have lunch at Bushara Island returning in the evening. A night-time dugout canoe will reward the visitor with flashing fireflies, a loud chorus of crickets and frogs, swooping bats, and nocturnal birds Meals and Overnight at Habuharo resort and-lake Bunyonyi Overland Resort. Day 11: Return to Kampala
Have your breakfast and drive to Kampala arriving in the afternoon and retire to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
