Rwagimba Hot Springs in Kabarole District of Western Uganda
Rwagimba Hot Springs are found in Kibiito Sub County in Kabarole district on River Rwimi which separates Kasese from Kabalore in western Uganda. The springs are among the several hot springs in Uganda which are some of the many tourist attractions in the Pearl of Africa. The hot springs are very vital to Tooro kingdom as the king would frequently visit the springs and have some days there in a way of rejuvenating himself.
Getting there:
When you are visiting Fort Portal, Kibale, Rwenzori Mountains or Queen Elizabeth National Park, you would be in an ideal position to pass by Rwigamba Hot Springs. From Kampala, you can take buses from the park to Fort Portal from where you can get a taxi to transfer you there.
From Fort Portal, you branch off at Nyakigumba trading center which is 25 Kilometres Fort Portal – Kasese Road. You will then drive 7 kilometres to Kinyampanika Primary School in Katebwa Sub County where you can safely the vehicle. From here, you will trek to the hot springs through hilly topography.
The Hot springs are believed to have healing power for both humans and animals. The people of Tooro also take their animals there for bathing against certain diseases. Traditionally, some locals believe that the hot springs are associated with the gods and therefore come here to ask for “blessings”.
The hot springs are a good place for picnicking whereby visitors can come with their food and eat from here as they enjoy nature. Visitors can also come with camping items to stay overnight here in the wilderness.
