Aswa Lolim Game Reserve in Northern Uganda

Aswa Lolim Game Reserve was a wildlife reserve in northern Uganda but was de-gazetted in 1972 having been given that status in 1959.

The reserve was found north of the Murchison Falls National Park and provided a scattering or a migration zone for animals including elephants.

In 2010, Uganda Wildlife Authority offered a concession to a group known, Aswa-Lolim Wildlife Association to manage and oversee the significant wildlife migration path in the area. At present, Aswa – Lolim is a collection of big farms, even though the wildlife that live there are still under the conservation of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Animals that used this zone as a route included Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Vervet Monkeys, Lelwel Hartebeests, Uganda Kobs, Hippos, Common and Blue Duiker, Oribi, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Olive Baboon, Crocs, warthogs to mention.

Some of the bird species that inhabit the reserve include Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), Heuglin’s Masked-Weaver (Ploceus heuglini), Piapiac (Ptilostomus afer), Emin’s Shrike (Lanius gubernator) Gray-headed Oliveback (Nesocharis capistrata) and many more.
