Bokora Corridor Game Reserve

Bokora Corridor Game Reserve is a conservation protected area in northeastern Uganda. Established in 1964, this reserve covers 794 square miles. Bokora Corridor Game Reserve is portion of a collection wildlife reserves in Karamoja sub region. The Game Reserve is located in eastern Uganda parched plains and is easily accessed by road in the drier seasons.

Wildlife found in Bokora includes the Giraffe, eland, Gazelle, Antelope and many more. There are also a wider variety of birds in the reserve making it a favorite spot for bird watching safaris in Uganda. Other species include the roan antelope, lesser kudu, Bright’s gazelle plus ostriches which are only found here and in the Kidepo Valley National Park, in the far north-east of Uganda.

Around this reserve, wildlife is mainly found at Loporokocho swamp, with bird species spotted here comprising of the Eastern Bronze-napped Pigeon, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Dusky Turtle Dove, Lemon Dove, Black-throated Wattle-eye, Alpine Chat, African Hill Babbler, Thick-billed Honey guide Mountain Yellow Warbler and the Grey Cuckoo-Shrike among others.

In the Karamoja region, there are three game reserves that make up the broader ecosystem of mountains and Savannah in a semi-arid area. These three reserves are the Bokora, Pian Upe Game Reserve and the Matheniko Game Reserve.

In these game reserves, the Karamojong people are apportioned into distinct ethnic groups that include the Bokora, the Pian, the Upe plus the Matheniko who live in corresponding game reserves titled by their ethnic name. The Bokora people inhabit in the Bokora Corridor Game Reserve.

Uganda has got other wildlife game reserve which include the Katonga Wildlife Reserve, Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve and Katonga Wildlife Reserve. Others are Semuliki Valley Wildlife reserve, Ajai Wildlife Reserve and Karuma Wildlife Reserve among others.
