Nyungwe Forest Canopy walk is about a two kilometer hike to and back. The actual canopy walk is approximately 170 meters. You have to got to trek into the thick forest to the starting point and then after you walk back. The walk begins with briefing by the guide at the offices of Nyungwe National Park before heading into the forest.
During the canopy trek, there is a lot one may see that include primate and bird species plus numerous tree and plant varieties. One reaching the starting point, you will begin walking on the hanging trails connecting one steep hill to the opposite one. On this canopy walk, you will see several birds and primates even though during the actual hanging hike, your attention is focused accomplishing the walk than looking at other attractions in the forest. These include chimpanzee trekking, Colobus Monkey tracking, bird tracking, forest walks, trekking the Grey Cheeked Mangabey and Ruwenzori Colobus Monkey plus many more. The park is accessible by road for about 5 hours from Kigali. One can also also take an inland flight from Kigali to Kamembe Airport that is roughly a 35 minutes duration. Rwanda Air operates scheduled flights everyday to Kamembe. upon landing at Kamembe Airport, you take a 40 minutes drive to Nyungwe Forest Lodge, Gisakura Guest House or Nyungwe Hill Side Lodge that are the major accommodations around the park. From any of these lodges, you will be able to drive for around 30 minutes to reach Nyungwe National Park offices where you will undertake your preferred tour activities.
