Adventure Tours: Gorilla Tours Congo, Nyiragongo Volcano Trekking
Day 1: Arrive at Kigali International Airport and drive to Goma.
Upon your arrival in Kigali international Airport, you will be received by driver guide who will transfer you to Goma in Democratic republic of Congo. The journey covers a distance of 184 kms and takes 3 to 4 hours roughly without enroute stopovers is a breeze because of the well tarmacked road transport in Rwanda to the border. After crossing the border, you will start feeling the exhilaration of Congo. On arrival to Goma town, you will transfer to the hotel or the lodge to check-in, have dinner and overnight at La Versailles hotel(budget),VIP Palace Goma(mid-range),Mbiza hotel(luxury).
Day 2: Early Morning Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park.
After taking an early morning breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters in Bukima sector for a briefing Concerning gorilla trekking rules and regulation in Virunga National Park. After briefing, you will be led to the trail heads to start the trek while looking for the mountain gorillas in their peaceful environment in the forest. Trekking gorillas takes between 61 to 4 hour depending on the location and movement of these apes in their natural environment. You will be allowed to spend one hour with the mountain gorillas and during this time you can decide to sit down watch gorillas carry on with their daily activities of feeding, caring for young ones. You will remain close to the beautiful apes while observing them, photographing and immediately after one hour, you will get back to the starting point and after that, drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Day 3: Early Morning Nyiragongo Volcano Hike.
After your morning breakfast, you will drive to the mountain trail-head at Kibat Patrol Post in Nyiragongo Volcano. Beautiful drive to Nyiragongo soaring on top of its own lava flows from previous eruptions is really very interesting. You will be briefed and afterwards, get on to the climb of roughly 5-6 hours to the top of the Volcano. You will be escorted by two armed rangers/guides who speak English and French. Your hike to the peak of the volcano does not only reward you with remarkable outlooks of the flora and fauna elegant at lower altitudes, but you also give a local person a job.
When you get high enough, the views of over an old crater to Lake Kivu are stunning. Of course, those views are nothing compared to when you reach the crater and see the lava pool inside which is simply incredible. Diner and night will be spent in tents on the edge of the huge crater, high above the active lava lake. Lodging is in simple but comfortable A-frame huts on the crater edge. You are advised to carry warm clothes and a sleeping bag is essential as it will be very cold and windy all night.
Day 4: Decent from Nyiragongo Volcano, drive to Goma and transfer to Gisenyi in Lake Kivu Beaches.
After an early morning breakfast, you will begin your descent by 7:00 am from the summit of Nyiragongo to the head trail in Kibat Patrol Post. Arrive at the trail head before lunch and transfer back to the lodge to have lunch and relaxation. After lunch you will cross to Gisenyi in Rwanda and relax at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel beach alive with a beautiful view of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight stay at Lake Kivu resort (budget), la Palme hotel (mid-range), Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (Luxury).
Day 5: Early Morning transfer to Kigali & Departure.
After an early morning breakfast, drive to Kigali town, incase time allows, visit Gisozi genocide memorial a place that commemorates thousands of people who were killed during the 1994 genocide and buried her ,break off for lunch and later transfer to the airport for your scheduled flight.
