5 Days Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trekking

Full Itinerary

Day 1. City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

Upon your arrival at the airport, the company guide/drive will receive and takes you through the itinerary. He will take through the town of Kigali for a city tour. Visit the genocide memorial the final resting place for over 250,000 victims killed during the Genocide, visit Rwanda national museum and go ahead with your journey to the park. Upon reaching the park, check in to the lodge where you to spend the night. Dinner and overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury), La Palme and Le bambou Gorilla Lodge (mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (budget) all booked on full board basis.

Day 2. Gorilla tracking in the Volcanoes National Park.

After your morning breakfast, you will assemble at the park headquarter a long side with your tracking gears ,drinking water and packed lunch for a short briefing by the park warden about gorilla tracking. The guide will lead you to the gorilla tracking point trail and start searching the endangered primates in the forest. Trekking gorillas may take between 1 to 8 hours depending on the location and movement of these apes in their natural world. Upon seeing the gorillas all the fatigue disappear and you will be allowed to spend 1 hour as you’re watching them at close range. You can take pictures, witness them as they play and make loud calls, this is one of the most interesting activity that you will make your trip a brighter one .After the trekking, you will get back to the lodge for late lunch from where you will proceed for Ib’iwachu cultural village where a lot of Rwanda’s cultural and traditional practices are performed. Dinner and overnight stay at  Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury), La Palme and Lee Bambou Gorilla Safari Lodge (mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (budget) on full board basis.

Day 3. Golden Monkey Tracking and Cultural Tour.

After your morning breakfast, you will assemble at the park headquarters just like gorilla tracking. After the briefing you will move into the forest together with your guide to look for these primates. They also keep wandering within the forest therefore finding them may take some time between 1 to 6 hours. This will also reward you with a great primate adventure experience. Take 1 hour with them as you witness the way the network with each other take pictures to make you trek a wonderful one. You will get back to the lodge for lunch you may decide to go and visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight stay at  Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (luxury), La Palme and Lee Bambou Gorilla Safari Lodge (mid-range), Muhabura Hotel (budget) on full board basis.

Day 4. Dian Fossey hike and transfer to Lake Kivu.

Early in the morning after your breakfast, you will start Dian Fossey hike. She was an American zoologists who committed her life to carry out a study and research about the mountain gorillas and she spearheaded campaigns a against gorilla poaching. Her major aim was to conserve these mountain gorillas that  by poachers. She was later killed and buried on one of the mountain ranges in the volcanoes. Hiking to this Dian Fossey is such interesting as you get to learn about someone who left a legacy for gorilla conservation, visit the gardens and a number of gorilla tombs near that of Fossey. After the hiking, you will break off for look and drive to Lake Kivu. Diner and overnight stay at Lake Kivu Serena (luxury), Paradise Marahide (mid-range) or Palm Resort Hotel (budget).

Day 5. Boat cruise on Lake Kivu and transfer back to Kigali.

After the morning breakfast, you will drive around the lake as you enjoying the beautiful scenery of island around the lake, you will later move for about cruise at the lake as you enjoy the e cool breeze from fresh waters of Lake Kivu. Return back to the lodge for lunch and drive back to Kigali or to the airport for your departure.
