Gorilla Permit for Gorilla Trekking
For Gorilla safaris to take place, a visitor should book and have a gorilla trekking permit, a pass card for entering the park for the adventure activity. A tourist can make a gorilla permit booking directly with the wildlife offices or through a selected tour operator, who reserves the permit, organises a safari involving transport and accommodation as well to accomplish the trip. There are two types of gorilla permits including gorilla trekking and gorilla habituation experience permit. A gorilla trekking permit in Uganda is at USD 800 for foreign non residents and less for none residents. A permit for gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi forest is at USD 1500. The basis difference between gorilla trekking and gorilla habituation experience is that with the former, the visitor stays with the gorilla for 1 hour and the later, the tourist stays with the primates for 4 hours. In Rwanda, a gorilla permit is at USD 1500. This means, the cost of gorilla trekking in Rwanda and stay with gorillas for 60 minutes is the price for gorilla habituation experience in Uganda where you be with the gentle giants for 4 hours.
Gorilla Safaris in Uganda
Gorilla Trekking Safaris in Uganda are carried out in Bwindi Impenetrable forest and Mgahinga gorilla national park where the endangered primates are organised under various gorilla families or groups. Uganda gorilla tours in Uganda are done in the 4 gorilla trekking sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. These include Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo Sectors. At any of the four sectors, are gorilla families whose visitors are converged together at each region’s parks offices for screening and gorilla trekking briefing prior to hiking into the jungles. Each gorilla family is visited by 8 tourists per day.
Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Sectors where Habituated Gorilla families in Uganda are found for trekking:-
1. Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Buhoma area has 3 Gorilla groups that are visited by tourists. These families include Mubare Group, also known as the M-Group, Habinyanja Group and Rushegura Group, the biggest group in the Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
2. Ruhija Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Ruhija has Bitukura Gorilla group, Oruzogo gorilla and Kyaguriro family.
3. Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This region has Nshongi Group and Mishaya Gorilla Group
4. Nkuringo Sector of Bwindi Area is one of the most interesting and challenging groups in Bwindi Forest. Nkuringo area harbors Nkuringo Family for gorillas.
