Kigezi Wildlife Reserve
Kigezi Wildlife Reserve, established in 1952, is a protected area located in the Rukungiri District of Western Uganda. Spanning approximately 265 square kilometers, the reserve boasts diverse landscapes, including open grasslands, savannahs, and woodlands. It serves as a crucial buffer zone for the Rwenzori Mountains National Park to the north.
Wildlife
The reserve is home to a variety of wild animals, including:
- Mammals: Buffalo, bushbucks, elephants, giant forest hogs, kobs, topis, and waterbucks.
- Birds: A wide range of bird species, making it a destination for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Visitor Information
There are currently no accommodation facilities within the reserve. Visitors are advised to make arrangements in nearby towns or lodges if planning a visit. The natural beauty and wildlife diversity make it an appealing destination for nature lovers and adventurers.
