Kisoro Airstrip, An Airfield in Kisoro Town of Western Uganda
Kisoro Airport is an airstrip in south western Uganda that serves the town of Kisoro plus nearby Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The two parks are the habitats for the endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda. Some luxury tourists fly Entebbe to Kisoro and then transfer to any of the tourist destinations in western Uganda for gorilla trekking safaris. Kisoro Airport and Kihihi Airstrip are the only two stretches of land cleared for aircraft take off and land that facilitate gorilla tours in Uganda by flying. Kisoro airfield is accessible by air from Entebbe international Airport or Kajjansi Airfield using domestic flights, either scheduled or chartered.

Kisoro town is an important tourism transfer hub for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Kisoro town, the major urban centre in Kisoro district, is advantageously positioned in the southwestern angle of Uganda. The town is a few kilometres away from the boarders of Uganda with Rwanda and the Democratic of Congo. Other prevalent fascinations near Kisoro after the mountain gorillas are Lake Mutanda and the Virunga Mountains.
Distance wise, Kisoro town is about 485 km from Kampala City and 135 km from Kigali in Rwanda. Because of the differences in distances between Kisoro and the two cities, many tourists prefer flying into Kigali and connect to Kisoro via Cyanika border point. The much favored gorilla trekking in Uganda from Kigali is much easier with the transfer via Cyanika border to Kisoro from where proceeding to Mgahinga or to Bwindi’s south sectors of Nkuringo and Rushaga is more convenient. However, the existence of Kisoro Airport has made traveling between Entebbe and Bwindi much calmer.
