The 9 day Rwanda safari tours entail a Kigali city tour, wildlife safaris in Akagera National Park and optional visits to the historical and cultural places en route to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will enjoy chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest before transferring to Lake Kivu on which you will have a boat cruise. From this lake, you will connect to Volcanoes National Park, a home to mountain gorillas in Rwanda for gorilla trekking as a last activity before driving back to Kigali City.
Full Itinerary for Rwanda Safari Tours and Gorilla Trekking
Day 1: Arrive in Rwanda
This will depend on your arrival details. If you fly in Kigali late, our driver guide will pick you from Kigali International Airport and transfer you to your Hotel in Kigali city. In case of an early arrival, you will be picked up and straight away leave for Akagera National Park where you will arrive in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 2: Game drive in Akagera National Park
Before breakfast, take an early morning game drive in the Akagera National Park, one of the most interesting wildlife parks in Africa. It’s famous for its herds of game animals including lions, Elephants, Topi, over 430 species of birds including the shoe bill stork, and African Jacana. In the afternoon, drive back to Kigali for dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel/ Hotel Des Mille Collines/ Hotel Gorillas.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park, with Optional Stops en route.
After breakfast, drive to Nyanza for a visit to the Rwanda King’s Palace (Mwami’s). A traditional story teller is available to narrate for you the prowess of the pre-colonial kingdom. Drive to a place called Butare for a tour of the National Museum. Then proceed to Gikongoro for a tour of Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre. Continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park and have your diner in the evening at Gisakura Guest House.
Day 4: Nyungwe Forest Walk
After an early breakfast, drive to the nearby Nyungwe Forest National Park. Trail in search of the primates such as Nyungwe colobus and other species in the park. Have a picnic lunch and proceed to Gisakura Guest house for relaxation, Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking Nyungwe Forest, Transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi
Early in the morning, enter Nyungwe forest in search of chimpanzees and thereafter return to your hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, take a drive to Ginsenyi on Lake Kivu arriving late in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Bethanie Guest House or Stipp Hotel.
Day 6: Visit Kibuye and Gisenyi
Spend the morning in Kibuye. No one forgets the horrors that were perpetrated here in 1994; there is a genocide memorial in the church near St Jean. Remember Kibuye was hardest hit of all prefectures during the killings, with about 90% of the Tutsi population murdered. Back to a reborn Kibuye, other than swimming spots around town, Kibuye Guest house offers water skiing. They also offer boat trips around the surrounding islands. In the afternoon drive to Gisenyi. Overnight at Kivu Sun Hotel.
Day 7: Lake Kivu Beach Tour, Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri
Spend the morning in Gisenyi relaxing at the beaches or an option activity would be the boat trip to the islands of Lake Kivu or Goma. In the Afternoon, drive to Ruhengeri. Overnight at Gorilla Nest Hotel or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 8: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
Early morning departure for the mountain gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park. After the briefing from the authorities of the park, set off for the trekking into the rain tropical forest searching for the habituated gorilla family. You remain close to the beautiful primates for one hour as you observe and photograph these giant primates. After the tracking excursion, transfer back to the lodge for Lunch, dinner and over night at Gorilla Nest Hotel or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.
Day 9: This amazing Rwanda safari tours will end with Air port transfer.
