Trip Itinerary Highlights of Rwanda Uganda Safaris
Day 1: Arrive at Kigali Airport; make a city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Our representative picks you up at Kigali airport for a brief tour of Kigali Genocide Memorial that houses the remains of about 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide which claimed close to a million lives. After here, briefly visit to the craft market, have lunch and later depart for Volcanoes National Park, the home of mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Take an overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury), Hotel La Palme (Midrange) or Muhabura Hotel (Budget).
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
You will have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters to be briefed before entering the forest to track the gorillas. The hiking may take between 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gentle giants. One hour is the time allowed to visitors to be with the Gorillas. This time is for photographing, seeing and enjoying Rwanda Mountain Gorillas feed or play around as they groan. Take dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel, La Palme Hotel or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 3: Ascent to the Dian Fossey Grave at Karisoke Research Centre.
In the morning, transfer to the park offices for some briefing about Golden Monkey trekking. Same as Mountain Gorilla trekking, walks to see Golden Monkeys are in the morning hours and guests are also allowed 1 hour with the monkeys. After this trek, return to the lodge, take lunch and drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda for overnight. Enjoy your stay at Bird Nest, Arcadia Cottages or Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
Day 4: Relaxation at Lake Bunyonyi plus Optional activities
This day is mainly for relaxations. Lake Bunyonyi has fantastic waters and hilly views plus lake breezes that are very ideal for holiday makers. You may optionally go for a canoe ride on the lake, do some bird watching or a nature walk. Have your overnight stay at Bird Nest or Arcadia Cottages (Midrange) or Bunyonyi Overland Resort (Budget).
Day 5: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Take breakfast and then set of for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive at the park in the afternoon; check in at the lodge for your overnight. Take overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Luxury), Enganzi Lodge (Midrange) or Kyambura Safari Cottages (Budget).
Day 6: Have a morning Game Drive and afternoon Boat Ride.
After an early morning tea and a few snacks, you will set off for a morning game drive in the park and you will likely spot elephants, spotted hyenas, lions, leopards, stripped jackals, bush bucks, water bucks and warthogs and many wild animals. Return to the lodge for breakfast and relax as you wait for afternoon/evening boat cruise on Kazinga Channel after lunch. During this water cruise, you will spot buffaloes rest in the water, herds of elephants and several bird species along the channel shores. Later, return to the lodge for overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Luxury), Enganzi Lodge (Mid-range) or Mweya Hostel (Budget).
Day 7: Proceed to Kibale National Park, the home of Chimpanzees
Wake up late, have breakfast and start your drive to Kibale National Park, Uganda’s rain forest with a highest concentration of chimpanzees in Uganda. Enjoy your overnight at Mountains of the Moon, Chimps Nest or Kibale Forest Camp on full board.
Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale and Bigodi Nature walk
Enjoy breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing followed by a chimpanzee trekking adventure into the forest. Besides the chimps, you will likely spot other primates like the red tailed and colobus monkeys plus birds among others plus. After lunch at the lodge, you will go for a nature walk at Bigodi wetland, a paradise for birders. About 138 bird species have been identified in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. You will also see a wide range of biodiversity including many species of primates such as red colobus monkey, black and white L’Hoest monkey, colobus monkey, grey-cheeked, vervet monkey, mangabey, red tailed monkey, blue monkey and baboon. Mammals like Sitatunga, bush pigs, bush bucks, otters, mongooses and chimpanzees similarly visit the swamp from Kibale National Park. In the evening, return to the lodge for overnight. You will stay at Mountains of the Moon, Chimps Nest or Kibale Forest Camp.
Day 9: Drive to Kampala
After a late breakfast, start your journey to Kampala, where you will arrive in the afternoon. Lunch in Kampala and take an overnight at Speke Hotel, Hotel Africana, Speke Resort Munyonyo or Cassia Lodge.
10: Entebbe Airport Transfer
You will be transferred to the airport some good hours before your departure flight.
