When you reach the park, you can get a great scenery of the area by walking up to the viewpoint located 15 minutes from Ntebeko Gate. The park, also among the 4 mountain gorilla habitats in the region has great biological importance since throughout the climatic changes of the Pleistocene ice ages, mountains like this one provided a refuge for mountain plants and animals that moved up or down the slopes as climate became warmer or cooler. The Virungas are home to a large variety of wildlife including the world’s seriously endangered mountain gorillas.
